Year 6 Maya Mask Art

Today, Year 6 had a wonderful time finding out all about the masks that the Ancient Maya used. We discovered that the Maya had masks for many different reasons including: death masks, battle masks and ceremonial masks. We researched Maya masks and recorded our findings in our sketchbooks. Next, we designed our own Maya masks, using the research from the morning to give us inspiration! After break, we developed our knowledge of techniques for using clay and experimented with these. We learnt how to use score, slip, stick and smooth to attach two pieces of clay together. Finally, we used clay to create our very own Maya masks. They are all so beautiful and creative!
