Year 2 setting up their wormeries

21st September 2017
Year 2 have been learning about recycling and composting. Today they set up their class 'wormeries'. These use worms to turn garden and kitchen waste into compost. The children collected old weeds and vegetables from the school allotment to feed the worms. They learned how to tear and shred the food. Worms prefer to eat food that has been torn into small pieces. The wormery also has layers of paper and card. The compost made will be used later in the year when we are planting our flowers and vegetables.
