Music Impact

Teachers primarily assess pupil progress in music through questioning and low stakes quizzing, observations during lessons, verbal feedback and pupils’ work. Regular opportunities for retrieval and reviewing previously taught material ensure that teachers have opportunities to identify and address gaps and misconceptions and that the knowledge taught  ‘sticks’ and that the children remember more and make links between units of work.

Attainment steps for music are given each half term and by the end of each key stage, pupils are expected to know, apply and understand the skills specified in the relevant programme of study. Progress in music is reported to parents in end of year written reports.
